CROSS LANES, W.Va. (CNN/WCHS) - A West Virginia man is the victim of a crime which has also badly hurt his best friend.

Jeremy Williams says he came home late Monday night to find that his house had been broken into and his pit bull bleeding badly. Williams believes the burglars shot his dog with a bow and arrow.

Arrows struck the animal's jaw and in between his shoulder blades.

"Made me, my heart broke. I mean that's my, my best friend. I've had him, he's nine years old. Has to be a sick person to do something like this," said Williams.

Williams just returned from a tour of duty overseas. He didn't have the money to pay for his dog's treatment. After seeing his story air on television , numerous people reached out and helped Williams. A teacher at an area high school gave Williams a blank check for the operation.
